It is the turn of the twentieth century in New York. An era is exploding. A century is spinning. And the people are moving in rhythm and rhyme to the music of Ragtime. This epic musical weaves three stories in a poignant expose of the timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate in 1906 America.

This is Ragtime, a rich musical look at a changing America at the dawn of the 20th century, and Venture Theatre brings this passion, fight and struggle to life in a concert presentation of this amazing tale. Based on the 1975 novel of the same name by E. L. Doctorow, Ragtime follows the tale of three groups, focusing on three representing characters as their lives intertwine – Mother, a white Protestant homemaking wife, Coalhouse Walker Jr., an African-American Harlem musician, and Tateh, a Latvian Jewish immigrant.

Ragtime paints a poignant picture of a young nation as it suffers the growing pains of change. The blindly content are suddenly faced with the unfortunate, the dreamers are faced with harsh reality, the innocent meet with cruel  prejudice, and all the while, everyone struggles to reach their American dream as they fight against the currents of racism and violence.
